Father Gary David Sherman passed away from a heart attack on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. A native of Temperance, MI. He was 62. He and his high school sweetheart, Mary enjoyed 40 wonderful years of celebrating life together.
He attended Bedford High School in Temperance, Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He served as a pastor to Lutheran churches in Indiana and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1982 he converted to Catholicism. He then moved his family to Tulsa to receive Catholic Ordination. Throughout his time in Tulsa Father Sherman served many different parishes and touched many lives. He worked with people to start a Byzantine Rite Catholic Community and a Maronite Rite Catholic Community in Tulsa. His final calling was to serve as a chaplain at St. John Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife and six children: Jacob(Kelly), Laura, Gabrielle, Zachary, Joshua(Holly), Maximilian(Kaitlin), and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Sydney, Seth, and Elias.
Fr. Gary loved life, friends, and family. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the little things the most: a big rainbow trout, a great bottle of wine, working in his yard, and taking his boat for a spin around the lake.
Rosary will be Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., both at Holy Family Cathedral.
