George Charles Berman, age 96, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Tulsa Jewish Retirement Center. He was born October 31, 1914, in New York City.
George served in the US Army in Western Europe during World War II. After the war, he married the former Muriel Sacks and opened a drycleaning business in Bronxville, New York with his father-in-law, which he operated until his retirement to California in 1974. George and Muriel were prominent collectors of 20th century American art, avid world travelers and long-time supporters of the opera, ballet and symphony.
He is survived by son Mark D. Berman and daughter-in-law Candice Cheeseman of Tulsa, Steven H. and Denise Berman of Darien , IL, daughter, Nancy E. Berman of Kensington, CA, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Muriel, and his parents.
Memorial Service will be 4:00 PM, Friday, April 8, 2011, at Temple Israel. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa.
