Obituary

George F. Linihan Jr passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the age of 93.  George (also known as Bill) was born on April 17, 1925 to George and Sophia (Juenger) Linihan.  A Union High School graduate, he was one of twelve students in his graduating class. He was the youngest of five children and together the family ran the Linihan Dairy in Tulsa, OK.  George only briefly left the dairy to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War.  After 4 years, he happily returned home to the family business.  In 1967, the pick up line "Would you like to go for a ride in my plane?" resulted in a 42-year marriage to Patsy R. (Knight) Linihan.  Together they raised two children, George and Julie.

After the dairy was sold, George purchased his own property in Wagoner, OK, and started his farming and ranching operation.  He took great pride in his crops and cattle and for the next 40-plus years, he did in his words, "The only thing I ever really wanted to do."

When he did stop to rest, George enjoyed college sports, watching or reading a good western, and visiting with family and friends, in which conversations at some point always turned to weather. He will be remembered for his humble, kind and gentle ways and his perpetual optimism.  He was everyone's greatest cheerleader.  He embodied the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."  A man of strong faith, George was raised in a Catholic home and was a member of St Thomas More Parish for most of his life.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his four siblings: Paul Linihan, Eva Hayes, Tim Linihan and Ruth Farrell.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pat and his son, George.  He is survived by his daughter Julie and son-in-law Cliff Sheppard, and grandchildren Cassidy and Owen Sheppard and Gwendolyn McIntyre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Church of St Benedict in Broken Arrow, OK. Lunch and a memorial celebration will be held immediately afterward. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel from 4-6 p.m., followed by a rosary.

Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 918-291-3500.
