GERALDINE LOUISE 'JERI' SUESS
Geraldine Louise 'Jeri' Suess, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on August 14, 2011.
Her life was characterized by love, kindness and above all forgiveness. She was a comforting friend to all, a bright shining light from heaven, with a zest for joy, laughter, champagne and marching.
The former Geraldine Strahan was born January 21, 1929 in Minneapolis Minnesota and raised in the heart of the city. She attended Minneapolis Central High School and graduated in 1948. Jeri and her five siblings, Kate, Jack, Pat, Margie and Jo attended St. Stephens Catholic Church where Jeri was confirmed under the name of St. Agnes, the patron saint of young girls. All who loved Jeri knew she remained a young girl at heart for her entire life.
In 1950 Jeri went to work for American Airlines as a stewardess aboard DC-6 and DC-7 aircraft. She was living in Manhattan Beach, California where she met the love of her life, Gordon, and was soon retired because American Airlines at that time required female flight attendants to remain single. She was a member of the Kiwi Club, an organization of present and former flight attendants of American Airlines.
Jeri loved golf and was a member at Cedar Ridge Country Club for nearly 40 years where she enjoyed many warm August evenings, her favorite time to be out on the course. An avid reader her entire life, she earned an associates degree from Tulsa Community College at 70 years of age. Jeri and her husband traveled extensively and she was particularly fond of the Hawaiian island of Maui, where she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by her loving family. Jeri's greatest love was for her family and she was very devoted to them.
Rosary will be Wednesday, August 17, at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 18, at St. Benedicts Church in Broken Arrow commencing at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, in Tulsa.
