Obituary

Gilbert Leroy "Gib" Linscott was born in Wymore, Nebraska on November 12, 1935 to parents, Thomas Leroy Linscott and Pearl (Carey) Linscott. He left this life on September 29, 2017, at the age of 81, after a long battle with dementia. Gib was raised to work on his parents' farm in the Beatrice, Nebraska area. He graduated from Wymore High School in 1953, where he played the baritone and was known as an excellent baseball hitter. Gib attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, on a music scholarship and studied mathematics. He met Anita Joan Silvey, an accomplished soprano in vocal music, who he married in Edmond on June 1, 1958. When they moved to Tulsa, Gib began his career with the Tulsa City County Health Department. He finished his 40 year plus career at the Health Department as a systems analyst in the management information department, after moving up from . Gib was a self-taught programmer and system installer. Gib became the go-to-guy for computer system operations at a time when few employees at the health department knew much of anything regarding computers. After retirement, Gib devoted his time and energy helping take care of his aging mother-in-law, his mother, and later, his wife, Joan, as her health also began to fail during this time. Gib loved to fish for large mouth bass, crappie, and catfish. He passed this love of fishing on to his son, Mike. Many days were spent plastic worm fishing for large mouth bass from a Styrofoam and plywood raft in the strip pits near Oologah, where lunch usually consisted of sardines and crackers. Gib was also an accomplished pool player, ultimately winning a state nine-ball championship. He also enjoyed writing poetry and drawing scenes from his childhood in Nebraska. Both Joan and Gib took great pleasure in taking care of their pet dogs, most being of the Schnauzer breed. Gib and Joan were long time members of Holy Family Cathedral, where Gib was a fixture as an usher at Sunday services. Gib was a loving, loyal and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather; he will be remembered as a very kind, good man.

Gib was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his wife Joan. He is survived by son Michael Linscott and his wife Lynda Burris Linscott, and grandchildren, Michael James Linscott, Thomas Mason Linscott and his wife, Valerie Whitlach Linscott, Matthew Burris Linscott, and Carolyn Tyree Linscott, and numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 3 pm, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
