Obituary

Gilbert Virgil Rohleder died January 30, 2016. He is loved and remembered by family and friends for his quiet humor, strong determination, and high personal integrity. He was born in Hays, Kansas, on April 22, 1922. He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays and served in the infantry during World War II as a first lieutenant, participating in the Normandy invasion on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. He was wounded July 14, 1944 and awarded two Bronze Stars for heroism. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948 and worked as an engineer for Service Pipeline and Warren Petroleum Company. Joining Mid America Pipeline Company (MAPCO) in 1960 as General Superintendent, he rose to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. His many volunteer efforts included serving as President of Oaks Country Club and the Pipeliners Club, Director of the Gas Processors Association, board member of the Petroleum Club, member of the Business Advisory Council of Northwestern University, and active member of the Association of Oil Pipelines, American Petroleum Institute. In 1987 he was honored by his alma mater, MIT, and given the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corporate Leadership Award. This award recognizes individuals whose responsibilities in private industry mark them as exceptional contributors to the strength of the economic system. Retiring in 1985, he enjoyed family and his love for farming. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his son, Mike. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia Jane; his children … Chuck and his wife, Jane; Shan and her husband, Clyde; Emily; his daughter-in- law Addie and her husband Tom; his grandchildren….Julie and her husband, Bret, Marc and his wife Jennifer, Andrew and his wife, Cassi, Will and his wife Brooke, Charlie and his wife Anna, Nicholaus; and his great grandchildren … Joshua, Caitlyn, Emma, Luke, Olivia, John, Madison, Rylan, Lucy, Waite, and the arrival of a new little one in summer 2016. To honor his memory, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association as a tribute to Dr. Andy Roye.
Funeral Mass Wednesday February 3, 2016 at 1:30 PM, St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery 91st and Harvard.
