Goldie Wiseman Cash passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the age of 88.
The youngest of eight children, Goldie was born on October 10, 1925, in Ostrowce, Poland, to Samuel Wiseman and Eva Weinrib Wiseman. She emigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1933.
In 1947, Goldie met her future husband, Dr. Murray M. Cash, a young intern also from Toronto. They were married in 1949, and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1950, where they raised their four children and became naturalized citizens – living their American dream in an adopted homeland that they loved deeply.
Goldie was actively involved in Tulsa's civic and religious life, volunteering with the Temple Israel Sisterhood and serving as its president. During her tenure as president she initiated a program sewing pillows for cancer patients, and planned the first congregational Shabbat dinner. Skilled and enthusiastic needlepointers, Goldie and Murray presented the Temple with custom designed needlepoint ark doors for the Temple's chapel in honor of their daughter Mary's 13th birthday. The doors remain there today, nearly fifty years later. She was a recent recipient of the Sisterhood's prestigious Queen Esther award, in recognition of her many years of service to the congregation of Temple Israel, of which she was a lifetime member.
A committed Zionist, Goldie visited Israel for the first time in 1965, and returned many times over the years, including spending three weeks as a volunteer teaching English to Russian immigrants and taking her entire family there to celebrate her 80th birthday.
She was a dedicated member of many organizations, including the Brandeis Book Club, Hadassah, and Yad v'Yad. She loved golf, and was a passionate bridge player, participating in a standing game with the same group of close friends for over fifty years. A master cook and hostess, she welcomed friends and family into her home often to enjoy her delicious food and warm hospitality.
Goldie was a beautiful, wise and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was beloved by her family and friends, to which she was profoundly devoted in return. She faced life's challenges with grace, dignity and courage, inspiring all those that knew her. When her husband Murray died prematurely, it was Goldie's indomitable strength that kept her family together and allowed them to thrive. As the last surviving matriarch of a very large extended family, she was always ready to listen and offer her valuable perspective on what was truly important in life.
Goldie was preceded in death by her loving husband Murray. She is survived by her children Steven Jeffrey Cash and wife Janet Cash of Houston, TX; Mary Cash Jacobs and her husband John Jacobs of Silver Spring, MD; Pamela Cash Kancher and her husband Michael Kancher of Winter Park, FL; and Dr. James David Cash and wife Sharon Cash of Tulsa, OK. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud and who will cherish the time they spent with her always: Adam Kancher, Stacy Cash, Eliza Jacobs, Spencer Kancher, Mitchell Cash, Corrina Jacobs, Kameko Jacobs, Caitlin Cash, Alyssa Cash, Shaina Cash and Micah Cash.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014, at Temple Israel. Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
