Graydon Dean Luthey died June 18, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born September 28, 1930 to C. B. and Wilma Luthey in Topeka, Kansas, and was to be their only child. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Anne, to whom he was married for 59 years. He and Anne met on a blind date at the University of Kansas, where they were students.
Graydon was educated in the public schools in Topeka. He received his A.B. degree at the University of Kansas where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity, OWL Society (Jr. Men's Honorary) and Omicron Delta Kappa (Sr. Men's Honorary). Washburn University bestowed his J. D. degree upon him in 1954, where he was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.
From 1955-1957 he was on active duty as an Officer with the U.S. Air Force and in the Air Force Reserve as a Captain. After release from active duty, he was employed as Special Attorney to the Kansas State Insurance Commissioner and later as General Counsel for the Kansas Department of Revenue.
In 1964, Graydon was employed in the Legal Division of Cities Service Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma City, Houston and Tulsa. Reaching the position of Associate General Counsel, he retired in 1993. Upon retirement he joined the law firm of Hall Estill in Tulsa and retired again in 2001.
He was admitted to practice law in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, various federal courts, and the United States Supreme Court. He was a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Graydon had a variety of interests including: St. Mary Catholic Church; Tulsa Ballet (member of the Board of Directors for 18 years); Founder, Tulsa Crime Commission; Tulsa Opera; Summit Club; Tulsa Men's Club; foreign travel and reading.
He loved Anne and his family. He is survived by his son Graydon Dean Luthey, Jr. (Debbie), daughter Lynn A. Luthey, granddaughters Dr. Sarah Shepherd (Dr. Scott), Dr. Katie Shepherd (Greg), great-granddaughter Libby Shepherd, great-grandson Charlie Shepherd, great-granddaughter Caroline Shepherd and great-granddaughter Emily Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers it is suggested donations be made to the School of St. Mary Education Trust Fund or a charity or education fund of personal choice.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 22nd, at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st Street South, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
