ATKINS—Helen Raye Atkins, age 90, passed away on January 9, 2013, at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa after a short illness. Born in Jenks, OK, on August 16, 1922, she was the oldest daughter of Harvey and Jennie Adkison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James "Jim" Ethie Atkins, and her brother Kenneth Adkison of Jenks. Helen is survived by her only daughter, Mary Jamé Bodenhamer, and husband Kevin of Humble, TX, and her only grandson, Matthew Bodenhamer, and wife Jenny of Norman, OK. Helen is also survived by her sisters, Betty Wildey and husband Ralph of Jenks, and Joan Winkle and husband Bill of St. Charles, MO; brothers, Roy Adkison of Beggs, OK, Bob Adkison and wife Phyllis of Moab, UT, and Ralph "George" Adkison and wife Kathleen of Grand Prairie, TX; sister-in-law Jo Adkison of Jenks; and many nieces and nephews. Also, Helen is survived by her step children, Stephen Atkins and wife Mary Lou of Jacksonville, FL, Rodger Atkins and wife Melanie of Dalton, GA, and Linda Nelson of Lampasas, TX, as well as Linda's children and grandchildren.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Jenks. She graduated from Jenks High School in 1940 and worked a variety of jobs. During WWII she worked at Spartan Aviation where she was an airplane riveter, or a "Rosie the Riveter." In 1948, she began her primary career at Bank of Commerce in Jenks (now BancFirst). She worked at the Bank of Commerce until she retired in 1982, advancing to the office of Cashier before her retirement.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, from 5:00-7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary from 7:00-7:30 pm at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel in Tulsa. Services will be held on Monday, January 14, at 10:30 am at Saint Catherine's Catholic Church in Tulsa. She will be buried in Park Grove Cemetery, Broken Arrow.
