Helene Ann Whitmer Schmitz was born January 23, 1922 in Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Dr. Warren and Adalee Brownlee Whitmer.   She passed from this life on July 23, 2018 at the age of 96.  Helene married Robert H Schmitz on November 25, 1948 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas.  They lived in Manhattan, Kansas for 55 years.

Helene graduated from Independence Kansas High School and Independence Junior College.  She was a homemaker and after her children were grown she worked at Kansas State University Graduate School for 20 years.  In 2005 Helene and Bob moved to Tulsa, OK where they made many new friends at University Village.

She is survived by three children Patricia and Michael Miller of Tulsa, OK; Robert M. and Deborah Schmitz of Brenham, TX; and David and Barbara Schmitz of Kingman, Arizona and 9 grandchildren: Jennifer Miller of Oklahoma City, OK; Douglas and Lindsey Miller of Moore, OK; Elizabeth and Austin Park of Tulsa, OK; Rebecca Miller of Naples, Italy; Kara and RJ Voorhies of Katy, Texas; Ashley and Sean Britt of Houston, Texas; Julie Schmitz of Houston, Texas and Jonathan Schmitz and Robert Schmitz of Kingman, AZ and 2 great grandchildren Audrey Miller of Moore, OK and Jack Brown of Oklahoma City, OK.

Helene was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Tulsa, OK.  She was a member of DAR, Town and Country Garden Club, Flint Hills Daylily Club and Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, Kansas. Helene and Bob loved to dance, play cards and travel.  Helene had a love of flowers and was an active gardener most of her life.

Services will be held Thursday July 26, 2018, at 2pm at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church.
