Henry Alexander Merrill, age 84, of Tulsa passed away at home on Thursday evening, January 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Henry, along with his identical twin brother, Frederick, were born April 7, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois to Edward and Victoria Merrill. Frederick of Springfield, Illinois passed away just twelve days before Henry.
Henry graduated from Evanston High School and the University of Colorado where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He began his business career with Harris Trust & Savings Bank in Chicago. He became advertising coordinator for Sunray DX in Tulsa in 1963 and was promoted to advertising sales promotion manager in 1968. In 1969, Henry joined Cities Service Oil Company as advertising department coordinator. Subsequent to Cities Service, he held various sales and marketing positions.
Henry married Mary Delores Dee on May 15, 1954 in Denver, Colorado. Henry is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Mary and his loving children: Dr. Tom Merrill and his wife, Debbie of Norman, OK and their three children Emily Collins and husband JC, Amy and fiancé Brian Matlock, and Steven; Betsy Kunkel and her husband Darrel of Tulsa and their two boys, Bob and Jim; Mike Merrill of Tulsa; and Jim Merrill and his wife, Joanie of Oklahoma City and their three children, Jack, Sally and Annie.
In addition to being an avid reader, Henry loved playing golf with his buddies at LaFortune and South Lakes. Henry and Mary were dedicated volunteers to Meals on Wheels where they delivered meals for over 25 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 2pm at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel (3612 E. 91st St. South, Tulsa Oklahoma).
