Herbert Fritz, AIA, notable Tulsa architect and historic preservationist, whose design work ranged from museums to airports, from hospitals to municipal buildings, and who was a leader in local and national historic preservation, died Sunday in Tulsa with his family by his side. He was 64.
Herb was president of the Tulsa architectural firm, Fritz Baily, P.C.
He was born in Germany, grew up in New York and made his lifelong home in Tulsa, where he was a passionate architect who worked tirelessly to design, save and preserve some of Tulsa's most important buildings.
A 1974 graduate of OSU, he joined Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in Chicago and in 1977 he came to Tulsa with Murray Jones Murray until forming his own firm with Ted Baily in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Debbi Bonifazi Fritz of Tulsa, and their two sons, Michael and his wife, Krissy, and their son Koen Michael, and David and his wife Fallon, and son Herbert Maximus, all of Ft. Collins, CO; his sisters, Luise Paoletti and her husband Eugene of Queens, NY and Linda Cody and her husband Bill of Long Island, NY; his aunt Louise Fritz of Hollis, NY and numerous cousins.
The family is eternally grateful to the incredible, compassionate support from the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Treatment Center of America who helped Herb survive his steadfast and valiant fight with cancer since 2007.
A memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Tulsa Historical Society, with Michael Wallis, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture, 2210 S. Main, Tulsa, OK 74114.
