Homer Ernest Pickhardt, 95, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died peacefully at home on March 19, 2023.
Homer was born September 9, 1927, in Gem, Texas, to parents Evan and Melissa Pickhardt. He graduated from Empire High School in Duncan, Oklahoma, and studied engineering at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University), where he earned his degree in 1950.
Homer married Loretta Jean Wright on October 1, 1949. They raised two children, Carolyn and Carl, and shared 71 years of marriage before Loretta's death in 2021.
Homer's career as a petroleum engineer spanned several decades. His work at Schlumberger took the family to Pawhuska, Duncan, Enid, and Tulsa. Long into his retirement, Homer continued to consult on drilling projects.
Homer faced the world with a quiet dignity. He loved learning and read widely. A former Empire High basketball player, he followed sports closely and always rooted for his OSU Cowboys. He had a passion for cars and sang bass in the choir at Harvard Avenue Christian Church.
Homer is survived by his daughter Carolyn McClure and her husband Jim; grandchildren Christen, Laura, and Jay; and great-grandchildren Dawn, Benjamin, and Mason. Homer was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, and his son, Carl Pickhardt.
A funeral service will be held at Harvard Avenue Christian Church on Saturday, March 25, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Harvard Avenue Christian Church Endowment Fund.
