Howard Rich Carpenter, born September 8, 1929 in San Diego, California, died at his home after a long illness on April 14, 2013 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Elizabeth Tezza Carpenter, three daughters from his first marriage, Kathy Vancil of Tulsa, Alison Dalton and husband Jeff of Tulsa, Sarah Dorman and husband John of Stillwater, and daughters Beth Walker of Tulsa, Amy Hopkins and husband Greg Papantonio of Denver, son Sean Hopkins and wife Robin of Tulsa, and former daughter-in-law Lora Hopkins of Tulsa. Howard is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alta Carpenter, brother Jerry Carpenter, first wife Mary Alice Jackson Carpenter, and two grandchildren, Adam Dalton and Mary Katherine Dorman.
Howard had a nearly 40 year career working for North American Rockwell, in the Human Resources divisions of Employment, Safety Administration and Labor Relations, after completion of his studies at North Hollywood High School and a Bachelor's Degree from UCLA in 1953. He was most proud of Rockwell's role in building space shuttle components for NASA. After transferring to Tulsa in 1962, his career with Rockwell continued until his retirement in 1990. He then dedicated over 21 years to volunteering for the St. John's Auxiliary and was an active member of Christ the King Parish.
Howard will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who loved many and was loved by many.
Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald's Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue, Tulsa, on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 5:30 pm. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Parish, 1519 South Quincy Avenue, Tulsa, Wednesday April 17, 2013 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John's Hospice, St. John's Auxiliary or the Marquette School Foundation.
