Obituary

Isidro Fernando Medina, 88, died February 20, 2013, due to stroke related complications. Fondly known as Chico by his friends and Chilo to his family, he was born February 13, 1925, to Ysidro and Maria Nieto Medina in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

After initially starting a career as a pharmacist in his family's pharmacy, Chico decided to immigrate to the United States in 1953. Sponsored by his cousin, Bill Nieto, Chico settled in Tulsa and worked for Safeway and Sipes' grocery stores. He was later employed at Southern Hills Country Club, from which he retired in 2006, after forty years of service. He developed many friendships there, with both staff and members, which he dearly cherished. He enjoyed sporting activities, especially wrestling and football, and particularly enjoyed attending events at the University of Oklahoma.

The youngest of six siblings, Chico married Elva Soriano in 1950 in San Luis Potosi. The couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in October 2012. Chico was devoted to his wife and children and will be remembered for his love and support of them and his grandchildren.

Chico was a wise and humble man. His vision, determination, faith and hard work resulted in living the "American Dream" through his children. His work ethic and emphasis on education cannot be overstated. This remarkable man overcame many obstacles in achieving success. When confronted with an obstacle, Chico viewed it merely as a bump in the road and moved forward. His wisdom will be forever cherished.

He is survived by his wife Elva, three children: Lucy Medina, M.D. and husband Wayne Yerkes, of Mill Creek, WA; Jerry Medina and Kathy Wagner Medina, of Norman; and Louis Medina and wife Kathy, of Tulsa; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be said 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 25, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 1419 N 67th East Avenue, Tulsa.

Friends and relatives may honor Chico's memory with contributions to Bishop Kelley High School or San Miguel Middle School, both in Tulsa.
