Irene Slutz
Irene was born in Santa Barbara, California, to
Andres and Maria Mendoza. She was one of 6 children. Irene
worked in a military plant for many years as an electronics
assembler, where she was highly respected and often given the
most difficult repair work assignments.
In 1961, with her mother's blessing, she eloped with the
love of her life, Gerald Slutz. Jerry's business took him all over
the world, and he loved bringing Irene with him. After Jerry
retired, they continued to travel, driving their motorhome
across the US and caravanning in Mexico. Irene and Jerry
celebrated 55 years of marriage on January 31, 2016.
Irene studied geology and loved rocks and rock
formations. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and cake
decorating. An excellent cook, her dinner club always looked
forward to "Irene's month." She had a compassionate,
thoughtful, and generous heart. She was an amazing role
model and a loyal friend. She leaves a legacy of joy, love, and
kindness.
Irene is survived by her husband Jerry, her sister
Gloria, her two children, Wayne and Karen, 7 grandchildren
and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Liberty Church, 7777 South Garnett Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
