Obituary

Irene Loretta Wrona, 92, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2013 in Tulsa, surrounded by family. She was born February 16, 1921 in Joliet, Illinois to Felix and Katherine Sliz.

Irene grew up in Joliet where she met Walt Wrona and fell in love forever. They married on September 23, 1945 and moved to Tulsa in 1948, where they celebrated 36 years of marriage until he passed away in 1981.

She loved her family. She cooked and sewed and took care of our physical needs, but she also provided us with the strength, guidance and support to survive in any situation.

She loved her faith. She was a card-carrying Catholic, whether she was cleaning the church, weeding the flower bed, attending Mass, or saying the rosary. She thanked the Lord everyday for all of her blessings. Her favorite bible verse was 1 Corinthians 13:4-13. When prayers were needed, we went to her first!

She loved volunteering at St. Pius X School. She helped at the office and served meals in the cafeteria, but she really delighted in helping the young ones learn to read and was so thrilled when they sent her Thank You cards that they had made themselves.

She loved her neighbors. Just ask them! She would welcome the new ones, and help the old ones. She would take communion to the shut-ins, give you a ride up the street, or watch your toddler while you ran an errand.

She loved her sports, especially baseball. Not only was she an exceptional scorekeeper at the games, but she also held backyard pre-game warm-ups. We used to joke that although Dad was the head coach, Mom was the general manager. She never missed a game if she could help it, and to her, the Little League games were just as important and exciting as the Major League ones.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wally Sliz. She is survived by her 6 children, Connie (Rick) Ringer, Marcia (Sheadrick Boyd, deceased) Wrona, Ron (Patsy) Wrona, Maureen (Denny Merritt) Wrona, Bill (Denise) Wrona, and Rick (Susie) Wrona; 14 grandchildren, Marc (Danae) Kubicki, Josh Kubicki, Matt (Debbie) Kubicki, Jenni (Shane) Jenkins, Adam Kubicki, Nikki (Matt) Caskey, Rikai Boyd, Dustin Wrona, Whitney Wrona, Kyle Roller, Lexie Wrona, Charlie Wrona, Will Wrona and Walt Wrona; 5 great-grandchildren, Connor Kubicki, Caroline Kubicki, Baylor Jenkins, Avery Caskey, and Parker Caskey.

Her entire family and anyone who knew Irene, will miss her greatly. We love you Irene, Mom, Grandma, GG.

Family and friends may further honor Irene's memory with contributions to the St. Pius X School Fund.
