Obituary

Joseph 'Leroy' Wiesmann
Leroy Wiesmann was born to Carl & Ida Leub Wiesmann in Carlsbad, NM on July 8, 1933. He died peacefully at the family home in Bixby, OK on November 4, 2012.
He grew up in Gainesville, TX, attending St. Mary's school where he played linebacker for the football team. After a stint in the Army for Uncle Sam (mostly stationed in Germany), he returned to Gainesville to marry the love of his life, Dolores Haverkamp of Muenster, TX. The couple settled in Gainesville.
His post-military career began with Santa Fe Railroad. He worked full-time while attending school part-time at Cooke County Jr. College. With four small children at home (and more on the way), Leroy took a leap of faith by leaving his job with the railroad to attend college full time at North Texas State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. In 1962 he began his accounting career in Ft. Worth with Pan American Petroleum; was transferred to Tulsa in 1965 when the company was acquired by Amoco. He worked for Amoco for 29 years, until retirement.
Preceded in death by his parents Carl & Ida, his siblings Lawrence, Paul, Ed (Bertha), Anna Marie Wiesmann-Turnham, and daughter-in-law Nancy Wiesman-Gates. Leroy is survived by his wife Dolores of 57 years; his 7 children Keith Wiesman (Sabrina), Lynn Davis (CJ), Bryan Wiesman (Sally), Curtis Wiesman (Kim), Daryl Wiesman (Suzy), Tammy McMurrian (Jimmy Jr.) and Deanna Bishop (Brad). Leroy is survived by 17 grandchildren Rachel, Gina, Alexandra, Lee, Taylor, Leslie, Joey, Jordan, Chad, Chase, Danny, Sara, Ashley, Kyle, Kendall, Caleb and Devin, 7 great grandchildren Madison, Evan, Jack, Tyler, Alexander, Jaydon and Bryce, sister-in-laws Barbara Wiesmann and Leona Miller, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A devout Catholic his entire life and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1966. In 1951, he joined the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal men's organization. A member of Council 4721, Leroy proudly served as the State Deputy in 2000-2001 and from 2004-2006 served as the 4th Degree's Oklahoma District Master. His volunteer activities with the Knights included many years working with the Special Olympics Oklahoma and the Center for Family Love in Okarche, OK.
Leroy was widely known as a man of patience, integrity and honesty. His beginnings were very humble, but he knew that he could improve the life for his family based on hard work, perseverance, and doing what was right. Regarded by friends as one of the finest people they had ever met and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to Fr. Matt Gerlach and Deacon Peter Byrne for their many years of support, as well as their spiritual guidance in Leroy's final days.
