John Harold "Jack" Conway, Jr. died in Tulsa on August 21, 2018, at the age of 94. He was born on June 11, 1924 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, the son of John and Theresa Conway. Jack moved to Shawnee and then to Tulsa, where he graduated from Cascia Hall at 16, after skipping fifth grade. He earned his Eagle Scout. Jack began college, but served in the US Navy during the mid-1940's, as LST commander, most notably in the second wave of LST's and boats WWII attack on Iwo Jima. He returned to college and graduated with a BS of Naval Science (1945), a BA in accounting (1946) and LLB from OU (1950), and his doctorate later from OU. After a stint with Arthur Young & Co., he began practicing law with Martin Logan Moyers, the oldest firm in Oklahoma. Then Jack also joined the newly formed Mabee Foundation in 1948. He became senior partner of Moyers Martin Conway Santee & Imel, and after retirement, continued as Mabee Foundation chairman. While attorney and accountant, Jack worked with clients such as: W.L. "Billy" Connelly, of Sinclair Oil, W.K. Warren, J.A. LaFortune, Buddy Benz (banking and horseracing with Charles and Stormy Bidwell), Ray A. Siegfried, John Rooney, and the Williams family, of Williams Company. With W.K. Warren, Sr., Jack formed the Committee of One Hundred, which benefited the families of police and firemen killed in the line of duty. Jack helped found the Tulsa Tax Club with Don Moyers.
Jack served as president and on the board, during his many years with the Tulsa Club (downtown). He served as chairman of Cascia Hall Board, where he was made an associate member of the Augustinian Order, served on the boards of St. John and St. Francis Hospital, 4th National Bank, Peoples State Bank (and part owner), Philbrook Art Center Trustee, and served on Monte Cassino and Benedictine nuns boards for many years. Other honors included: member of the Order of St. Augustine and Knights of Malta, and attorney honors and recognitions, nominated for the "Top US Attorney", just this year.
Jack was predeceased by his wife June (2008), and is survived by his son, John H. Conway, III, and daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Leahy, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 14th and S. Boulder, will be Friday, from 12 until 5 PM, and Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 10 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 16th and S. Quincy, in Tulsa.
