Jack Roy Murphy passed away at his home in Broken Arrow on April 14 after a long illness. He was born on June 26, 1941 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Edna Roy
Murphy and Jack Reeves Murphy.
Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963. He was a proud soldier, and served as an
Artillery Officer in the Viet Nam conflict. He remained in the Army Reserves for years and finally retired from military service in 1988 after rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In later years, Roy attended Virginia Tech University and earned a Master of Science Degree in Geology. For several years, he worked for the EPA in Washington, D.C. as an environmental scientist, and he subsequently worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Roy is survived by his wife, Gwen; his son, Shane Murphy of Santa Barbara, CA; his daughter, Kris Murphy-Kenneth and husband, David, of Redondo Beach,CA; stepsons, Dr. Greg Day, of Westover, WV; and Dr. Geoffrey Day and wife, Cathy of Tulsa.
Roy had four grandchildren, Ian and Kasey Kenneth of Redondo Beach, CA; Amanda Day, of San Francisco, CA; and Sarah Day-Short and husband Kevin of Edmond, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday,April 21, at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel at 3612 E. 91st Street South, in Tulsa.
