Obituary

Jack Allan Powell, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Passed away November 3, 2010. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 4, 1930. Jack, his younger sister Kay, and their parents, Bill and Esther Powell later moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he graduated from University High School, and went on to attend both the University of Oregon and Oregon State. He met Elizabeth Diane Carselowey in 1947, and they were married April 9, 1953. During his Air Force career, he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, and while there, they had their first child, Deborah Diane Powell. Their second child, Christopher Allan Powell was born upon their return to Oklahoma. During this time Jack served as a test pilot for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. Upon leaving McDonnell Douglas, the family moved to Muskogee, OK, where he served as Assistant Vice-President for First National Bank. It was in Muskogee where their third child, Sherri Denise Powell, was born. He was offered the position of President of the Bank of Chelsea in 1974, and retired from that position in 1984. He had a passion for flying which originated as an Air Force cadet, and culminated with the "Air Fife", a group of men who shared a love of flying, and continued to fly well after their retirement. Over the years Jack was active in many civic organizations including Toastmaster President, Methodist Church Lay Leader, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce President, Chelsea Municipal Authority chairman, Retired Air Force Officers Association and various committees for Christ United Methodist Church. He also served the Tulsa community as a volunteer for the Harmon Science Center, Philbrook, the Humane Society and the Oklahoma Aquarium. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane. Children; Debbie (Bob) Johnson, Lakeville, MN, Chris Powell, Tulsa and Sherri Saunders, Carlsbad, CA. Grandchildren; Sarah (Adam) Clemen, Farmington, MN, Eric Johnson, Prior Lake, MN, Alexander and Ellis Powell of Tulsa. Great Grandchildren; Cheyenne and Marcus Clemen of Farmington, MN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Christ Methodist Church, Tulsa.
