JAMES DOOMAN 1926-2015
James Dooman was born April 27, 1926, in Chicago Illinois, to Isaac and Lillian Dooman. He left us at the age of 88 on Tuesday, April 21st, residing in his long time home of Tulsa OK. He was preceded in death by both parents and is survived by a host of loving family members including his wife, Joyce, of 62 years; sister, Julia Dooman; six children; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In 1944, at the age of 18 Jim entered the Army Air Corps and served two back-to-back tours as an engine mechanic in WWll. Part of his duties included the maintenance the big radial engines used on B-27 bombers as well as some work on the B-52's. He was honorably discharged in 1949, at the age of 23, and went on to attend DePaul University on the GI Bill. He graduated 3 years later with a degree in chemistry.
Jim married the love of his life, Mary Joyce (Joyce) Holliday, in Chicago on August 2nd, 1952. With his degree, he pursued a lifelong career in chemical and commercial-coatings sales. Jim's personality and skills made him a very likeable and respected person in his field. Jim always left a meeting with his numerous points-of-view on the table for all to enjoy.
Jim was one of the first outside paint salesmen for Glidden Paints in the late 1950s. His career brought him to Tulsa in 1978, where he finished his career. Jim and Joyce relocated many times throughout his career; from Chicago to Kansas City, back to Chicago, on to Wichita, Tulsa and then Grand Lake. Jim was very knowledgeable and well-respected by his peers regarding commercial primers and finish coatings used in manufacturing. He loved his work and took pride in the service he provided his numerous customers world-wide.
Jim enjoyed his time with family and living lakeside at Grand Lake for 12 years. If there were a handyman repair to do, he was always the first one to offer his services. Jim enjoyed the hammer and paintbrush, as would a sportsman the hunt, a golfer the links, or a fisherman the lure. He always made himself available to all around, whether neighbor, family, or friend. If either of his favorite tools were required, needed or not, he would gladly show up and give his assistance along with his version of how the details of the project should be accomplished.
In addition to his sister, Julia Dooman, of Chicago IL, Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Tulsa OK; son John and wife Vicki and their children Jessica Dooman, Megan Dooman and Chelsea (Powell) of Houston TX; son David and wife Paulette and daughter Nicole (Farfan) and her son David (Farfan) of Wichita KS; son Charles and wife Laura and their daughters, Jeanne Dooman and her daughters, Chloe (Miller) and Ella (Windler), and Lily Dooman, of Wichita KS; daughter Cyndi (Hayes) and husband Daniel, of Owasso OK, and their son Daniel Hayes Jr. and wife Emily and their daughter, Darcie of Oklahoma City OK; son Robert and wife Guylene and their children, Allison Dooman and Robby Dooman, of Tulsa OK; daughter Susan (Dorrell) and husband Robert and their children, Robert Dorrell Jr. and Kelli Dorrell of Oklahoma City OK.
