James Michael Hordubay entered into rest at The Oklahoma Veterans Center in Claremore on February 28, 2014. He was 80 years old. Born in their Windber, Pennsylvania home on February 20, 1934, he was the son of Joseph and Irene Hordubay. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William (Bill) of Verona, Pennsylvania. Left to grieve are his brothers, Edward Hordubay (Betty) of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Joseph Hordubay (Dotty) of Glencoe, Maryland and sister Irene Hillen (Jim), sister-in-law Irene of Verona, Pennsylvania, son James Drew Hordubay of Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter Suzanne Hordubay-Tillman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandchildren Abigail, Tanner, Sommer, Alexandria, Amber, and Rebecca and three great-grandchildren Dominic, David, and Gentry.

Jim graduated from Windber High School in 1952 and attended the University of Pittsburgh for a year before entering the Navy. He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Gilbert Islands as an aircraft maintenance and repair technician. He was a plane captain at the Patuxent River Naval Air Test Station in Maryland and had occasion to fly with Alan B. Shepard. Jim had a private pilots license and was a lifelong automobile enthusiast who restored several national prize winning antique cars.
Jim was a devout Catholic and active member of the Church of Resurrection dedicating himself to visiting the sick and elderly as a Communion Minister.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014 followed by a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. both at Church of the Resurrection, 4804 S. Fulton, Tulsa, OK 74135, 918-663-1907. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at Church of the Resurrection. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 9101 S. Harvard, Tulsa, OK.
