James Joseph Henderson was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 26, 1944, where his father served in the US Navy during World War II. His family moved to Tulsa from New York City in 1952. Jim graduated from Cascia Hall in 1961 and received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa as well as an M.S. from the University of Arkansas. Jim was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force and was awarded his pilot wings in 1967. He flew 225 aerial sorties in Southeast Asia from Ubon RTAFB in Thailand from May 1968 through May 1969. While there, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 14 Air Medals. After serving four additional years in the USAF, flying the F-4 Phantom at RAF Bentwaters in England, Jim was hired by American Airlines in 1973. He was blessed with three children by his former spouse, Carol Keller, and they have presented him with seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was awarded the "Spirit of American" award in 1988 for a Boeing 727 belly landing at DFW Airport when the landing gear failed to extend. Jim had many friends all over the world and will be missed by them all. He has asked all of them to pray for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Henderson, and his sister Patricia Cottrell. He is survived by his sister, Joni McMahon; his children, James Brian & Diane Henderson; and their children, James Andrew & Camryn Henderson, and Gracie Henderson; Lori Henderson and her children, Paige & Micah Lee, and their son Joseph Lee and Veronica McAllister; and Elizabeth & Chance Pruitt and their children, Blake & Meagan Pruitt, Mackenzye Pruitt, and Isabella Pruitt; as well as countless cousins in Broken Arrow, New York, Canada, Ireland, Poland, and Austria.
