Obituary

James Donald "Don" Kimberling, or as most knew him, "Poppa Don", of Tulsa, Oklahoma went to be with Jesus, in his home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 27th, 2018. He was born to Roscoe and Hazel (Hancock) Kimberling on May 17th, 1939 in Paris, Arkansas. Don married his college sweetheart, Sue McDowell on June 14th, 1964 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at Putnam City Baptist Church. He was a 1961 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma where he earned a B.A. in Business. After graduation, Don joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in Okinawa, Japan. The nickname given to him while a Marine was "Kimbo". He and Sue made their first home in San Clemente, California where he served at Camp Pendleton. Upon honorable discharge, Don began his 36-year long career at Sun Oil Company, which took his family to Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and back to Oklahoma. He loved hiking in the Rocky Mountains, especially one of the "fourteeners", Long's Peak, and he had memorable, eclectic taste in music. Poppa Don is survived by his beautiful wife, Sue McDowell Kimberling; their three children and ten grandchildren: Kari Kimberling Romoser and her husband, Mark Romoser, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and their children: Jake and his wife Rebecca, Zach and his wife Leanna, Luke and his girlfriend Maddy, and Lexi; Matthew Kimberling and his wife, Mary, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and their children Ben and Amelia; and Tim Kimberling and his wife, Leigh, of St. Louis, Missouri, and their children Aidan and Owen. Don is also survived by his sister Randy Kimberling Cannon and her husband George of Norman, Oklahoma.

Public Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E 91st St South, Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, October 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Poppa Don's Celebration of Life Service will be held at in the worship center at South Tulsa Baptist Church, 10310 S Sheridan, Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM.
