James Reed Nevins was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on January 30, 1927, and passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017. James graduated from Okmulgee High School, and went on to serve his country in the Army Air Corps for several years. After his time in the military, he attended Oklahoma A&M, earning his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. James worked for companies such as Texaco and Flintco where he found much success, but those paled in comparison to meeting his wife, the Helen Joan. After dating for eight months, James and Helen Joan married on August 22, 1953 and then welcomed five children in the world. His service to his country, tireless work ethic and devotion to his family made him a truly wonderful and unforgettable person, and he will be deeply missed. James is survived by his wife Helen Joan Nevins, his son Michael and wife Laurie Nevins, son Jim and wife Becky Nevins, and son Tom, daughter Cathy Nevins-Burke and husband Jim, as well as eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents James A. Nevins and Elva Nevins, and his daughter Mary Nevins. A memorial service celebrating James' life will be held at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, on Monday August 21, 2017 at 10 a.m.
