JAMES ALLEN NICKLES, 64, passed away November 27, 2011 in Tulsa, OK. He was born December 9, 1946 in Ponca City, OK to Robert Clair Nickles and Coeweene Bryan.
James attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1971 with a BS degree in Accounting. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was president of his 1965 pledge class. He was presented "The Board Award" by the Oklahoma Mu Alumni Association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The Oklahoma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Oklahoma State University recognized Jim as a member of the Hall of Fame as an acknowledgement of his outstanding contributions toward the benefit of the fraternity he loved so much. After graduating from OSU, he went to work as a CPA for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell & Co. accounting firm in Tulsa. He worked there for ten years, and then he started his private practice. Jim was a member of the 2nd class of Leadership Tulsa. He was appointed by Governor Keating to the Oklahoma State Board of Accountancy for two five-year terms. He served as chairman for one term. He was honored as a Life Member of the Oklahoma Society of Accountants on November 16, 2005. James was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Doug. He is survived by; wife, Janie Nickles, Tulsa, OK; daughters, Denae Avlos and husband Heath, Tulsa, OK and Lindsey Landrum and husband Cristan, Broken Arrow, OK; son, Jimmy Nickles and wife Michelle, Shawnee, OK; mother, Coeweene Nickles, Tulsa, OK; brothers, Clark Nickles, Ponca City , OK; Don Nickles and sister-in-law Linda of McLean, VA; sister, Carol Tippit, Tulsa , OK; grandchildren, Cora and Emma Claire Avlos and Austin Nickles, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 2151, Memphis, TN 38101-2151 and St. Francis Hospice, 6600 S. Yale #350, Tulsa, OK 74136-3362. A visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Friday, December 2, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1727 S. 75th E. Ave., Tulsa, OK.
