Jane Darlene Steil Romine, 90, a nearly life-long resident of Tulsa, passed away on Sunday January 8, 2023. Her loving family was at her bedside during her final hours. Jane has gone to join her beloved son Dennis William Romine, who preceded her in death in 2021. She is going to be greatly missed by her family and many others who remember her greeting was always accompanied by her genuine smile.
Jane was born November 8, 1932, in Tulsa to James and Mary Steil. Jane loved her Daddy and had many stories about how kind he was to her and how much fun he could be, one time riding his horse Bobby from the stables at the Tulsa Fairgrounds to their home, because he knew it would make her so happy.
Jane graduated from Central High School in Tulsa in 1950. She attended William Woods liberal arts college in Fulton, Missouri where she excelled in horsemanship, then transferred to University of Tulsa where she graduated in 1954. Jane was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority
Jane had her first date with Gordon Lewis Romine of Enid, Oklahoma, on Valentine's Day, 1953 and they were married on July 31, 1954, at Christ the King Church. Gordon was also a graduate of the University of Tulsa, with a degree in petroleum engineering.
After marrying, they moved around a bit for Gordon's work and lived for short periods in Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas before returning to Tulsa, where Gordon's career flourished. They raised five kids and lived for many years in the Maple Ridge neighborhood of Tulsa, near Woodward Park, and later moved to the Sophian Plaza near downtown Tulsa. They moved to Inverness Village retirement home in 2011. Jane and Gordon loved spending weekends at their cabin at Grand Lake, until declining health prevented them from making the drive.
Anyone who knew Jane would remember her as a truly beautiful woman with impeccable style and taste in fashion, decorating and art, which she passed on to her children.
Jane had many interests including art, history, and literature. She was an avid reader, very intelligent and remained extremely sharp all her life.
As a housewife, Jane gave her time as a volunteer for different causes/organizations including volunteering at St. John's Medical Center and Gilcrease Museum. With some of her children grown, Jane entered the work force as an administrative assistant at Citgo. Jane was always learning and doing new things to improve herself and her family's home life. She loved animals, especially dogs and she had many throughout her life. She even raised and showed Lhasa Apsos at one time.
Jane was an excellent mother and role model to her children, and taught them manners, values, and respect for others.
Jane lived an incredible life with much credit to her ever devoted and loving husband Gordon. He provided everything so she could have the best life. Gordon never stopped wanting to provide and care for her, even with the challenges caused by her declining health.
Gordon and Jane renewed their wedding vows at Christ the King Church in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004. Jane and Gordon are still members of Christ the King Catholic Parish in Tulsa.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents and her oldest son Dennis William Romine. She is survived by her husband Gordon Romine, sister Linda Qualls, brother Charles "Chuck" Steil and spouse Janice Steil, son Patrick Romine, daughter Maggie Romine, son Tim Romine and spouse Kristin Romine, daughter Karolyn Hall and spouse Clayton Hall, grandchildren Annevieve Mason, Corbin Hall, Nicholas Romine, Claire Romine, Dariya Romine, Luba Romine, and great grandchildren Traeton Mason, Raelynn Mason, and Sonny Romine.
