Janet Toppins was born on October 8, 1933 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Thelma and W.O. Butler. She grew up in Tulsa with three sisters, Joyce, Jeanneane, and Judy. After graduating from Will Rogers High School, she worked for Bell Telephone Company, and then later worked for Dr. Albert Gawey, DDS for many years. In April of 1956, she met Charlie Toppins and married him six weeks later. They were married 62 wonderful years and had four children, Tami, Teri, Tony and Tim.
In 1980, Janet and Charlie purchased a cabin at Grand Lake. Most weekends and summers were spent there with family and friends. That is where they met the Vogels, who would become friends so close that they became an extension of the family.
After Charlie retired, Janet went to work at the Catholic Diocese of Tulsa chancery office where she met many life-long friends including Archbishop Emeritus Eusebius Beltran and Monsignor Dennis Dorney. Her faith in Christ was strong. She attended mass regularly at Christ the King Catholic Church, St. Frances of Rome, Holy Family Cathedral and Church of the Madalene. There she met dear friends both lay and clergy.
Janet loved being the center of attention at gatherings of family and friends. Her story telling and jokes were legendary. She loved sitting on her porch for happy hour and gazing out over her award winning little front yard landscape. There was always a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes, especially when her grandchildren and great grandchildren were nearby.
Her smile and enjoyment of life never faded. Her final days were spent doing the things she loved most with those she cherished. She played cards and board games, enjoyed a glass of wine or two, and as usual, told a few jokes and many stories. She lived life to the fullest.
Janet is survived by her three children, Tami Noah, Teri Dye and Tony Toppins; daughters in law Julie Toppins and Melissa Toppins; son in law Jeff Noah; grandchildren Nick Noah, Bo Noah, Natalie Noah Gunkel and husband Jesse, Erin Dye, Jeni Dye, Abby Toppins Bernardini and husband Daniel, Blake Toppins, Luke Toppins, Jacob Toppins and Owen Toppins; great grandchildren: Gia and Grayson Gunkel. Janet was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, son Tim, and sisters Joyce Schober and Jeanneane Collins.
Janet was loved by many and will be missed by all. To know Janet was to love her, and the feeling was mutual.
