Our Grandma was a blessing to us. She was loving, caring, consoling, supportive, non-judgemental, welcoming, creative, artistic, and fun. She was beautiful. We wish that everyone could have a Grandma as great as her.
Every time we entered Grandma and Grandpa Chucker's house, there was always a good aroma coming from the kitchen. Some of those aromas were of short ribs, Krepla soup (from an old family recipe), peanut butter cookies, Mexican wedding cookies, and cracked sugar cookies. She would prepare a small cup of coffee with cream and sugar for us so that we could dip our cookies in it. She also would have tea parties with us using a tea set, and pour cocoa in to our cups. When we were lucky enough to spend the night, Grandma would make each of us a delicious cinnamon toast that was cut into 4 pieces to make it easier to eat. During the summer, she would make chocolate covered bananas.
Grandma was a very talented artist. In addition to painting, she hand drew pictures of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Minnie Mouse for us to color. She encouraged and taught us how to use our creative abilities. As we grew older, she introduced us to other crafts such as crochet, painting, plaster of Paris hand impressions, coloring with oil pastels, and water color painting. She also used her talents to make paper dolls for us and hand-painted Christmas cards.
She also taught us how to play games such as Old Maid, Go Fish, CAB, Polish Poker, Gin Rummy, King's Corner, and Hangman; and she would always play with us. She even had "dress-up" clothes for us to play with that included hats, dresses, jewelry, and high heel shoes.
We also enjoyed when Grandma would take us to the play ground, the mall, movie theatre, craft store, and in the summer evenings, she would take us to the park to listen to live band music. She would bring a blanket to lay out on the grass for us to sit on and enjoy the music.
Everything Grandma hand-made was special and beautiful. She made many cross-stitch pieces of art work. She crocheted dolls, clothing such as shawls and ponchos, baby booties, and household items such as hot pads, afghans, clothing hangers. She made plastic canvas crafts such as magnets, fly swatter covers, music boxes, purses, and Kleenex holders.
Grandma loved Hollywood glamour and gossip. She would watch all of the red carpet and award shows to see the stars all dressed up. She would read her Enquirers and keep us updated on the latest stories as we wanted to be "in the know" as well. Grandma also used her creative side to photoshop by hand, pictures of our faces onto celebrity bodies and making bookmarks out of them for us.
When we were young, we would cuddle next to Grandma to watch TV and she would gently scratch our back and it almost put us to sleep. We would watch musicals, TV game shows such as the Price Is Right, Bob Ross the Painter on PBS, Fraggle Rock, and movies.
As you can see our Grandma was an amazing person loved by everyone. And her greatest gift to us was showing us unconditional love. She will be greatly missed. We love you Grandma.
