JENNY ROBINOWITZ BROUSE
Jenny Robinowitz Brouse was born June 1, 1924 to Braina and Harry Robinowitz in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the age of 93, in Tulsa. She graduated from Central High School in 1941, and graduated from The University of Tulsa in 1945, majoring in history and minoring in English and Education.
Jenny married Sidney Merrill Brouse on November 3, 1946. They had two children, Carol Ann Windland and Brian Edward Brouse.
Jenny was certified to teach in the State of Oklahoma and received a lifetime teaching certificate. She was a substitute teacher for many years in the Tulsa Public Schools and was an early teacher in The Margaret Hudson Program.
As a tireless volunteer and community leader, Jenny was a past president of the Tulsa Section National Council of Jewish Women, Regional President of the National Council of Jewish Women, and a member of the National Board of N.C.J.W. She served as past president of the Tulsa Jewish Community Council (forerunner of the Jewish Federation of Tulsa), a founding member and past president of the Tulsa Center for the Physically Limited (now The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges),and as a past officer and board member of The Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Health Care Center (now Zarrow Pointe). In 1990 she received the Interfaith Understanding Award from faith communities in Tulsa. Jenny, along with her husband and son, received the Maimonides Award from the Jewish Federation of Tulsa Foundation, in 1995. She was also a life member of NCJW, Haddasah, Pioneer Women, and the Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center.
From 1975 to 2011, Jenny was a partner, buyer, and Secretary-Treasurer of Brouse's, a family-owned ladies shoes and accessories business in Utica Square
Jenny was an avid reader, seamstress, knitter, creweler, and a care giver; she grew African Violets and raised Minature Schnauzers. She had the patience of Job.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband, Sidney in 1999; her parents, Harry and Braina Robinowitz; and her brothers, Mike (and Sharon) Robinowitz, and Sol (and Frances) Robinowitz. Her parents and brothers were born in the village of Oratov, in the state of Kiev, in the Ukraine.
Jenny is survived by her daughter, Carol Windland (and Harry), and her son, Brian E. Brouse.
The family suggests that you honor Jenny with donations to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon, on Wednesday, January 24th, at B'nai Emunah Synagogue, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
