Jim T.Roy Barnes, 73, of Tulsa, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. He was born on December 13, 1944, in Tulsa, OK, to John and Henrietta (McCloud) Barnes. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1963 and furthered his education at the University of Tulsa.
Jim, a man of many careers and an entrepreneurial spirit, was best characterized by the two positions he favored the most: railroad conductor and tag agent. At the age of 18, he went to work for Frisco Railroad (currently Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad) rising to his final position as a freight train conductor. Towards the end of his 30-year railroading career, he opened the iconic Barnes Tag Agency and Museum in South Tulsa in 1984 serving over a million Oklahomans. Among other things, he enjoyed sharing his love of trains, bald eagles, antiques and more through his ever-growing exhibit with all who walked through the doors of Barnes Tag Agency. In addition, he also played an active role in his community by running for state office and serving on the Jenks School Board. He prided himself in being a lifelong Tulsan and loved contributing to its beautification through his support of Natureworks.
Jim loved OU football and was so very proud to see all four of his children graduate from the University of Oklahoma. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren any chance he had.
He is survived by his children, Dr. John R. "Rennie" Barnes, and his wife, Kelly, of Tulsa; Christina Hiersche, and her husband, Justin, of Oklahoma City; Cathleen LeBeau, and her husband, Justin, of Beirut, Lebanon; and Zachary Barnes, and his wife, Blanka, of Prague, Czech Republic; nine grandchildren; former spouse and friend, Katherine Barnes, of Bixby; sisters, Mary White, of Pryor, OK; and Joy Carter, of Sapulpa, OK; loving companion, Susan Hall, of Tulsa; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
