Joan Elizabeth Cherry, 80, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2024, at 11:22 a.m. She was born on February 21, 1944, at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Forest and Elizabeth Alley.
Joan attended Marquette School and was a graduate of Bishop Kelley High School. She had an interest in journalism and won a citywide thrift essay contest and was awarded a cash prize and trip to the city of Chicago.
Mom loved ice cream, flowers, animals, and singing and dancing. She was a gentle and kind soul with love and compassion for all. She was known for her sense of humor and was always ready to participate in jokes and dress up in costumes.
Joan is preceded in death by her father, Forest Alley; mother, Elizabeth Alley; husband Dan Cherry; and brother, Grant Alley.
She is survived by her children, Vicki Pearson (Gary), Mike Cherry (Tammye), Elizabeth Cherry (Jeff Richardson), Suzanne Bitsko (John), and Chris Cherry (Laura); her grandchildren, Kayla, Josh, Noah, Piper, Joey, Ella, and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Oaklyn, Maren, and Maisyn.
Mom always said that one should always pray for a peaceful death and that is ultimately what she received.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 19th, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 14th and South Boulder Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Christ the King Church, 16th and Quincy, Tulsa. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
