Joan Manning, age 72, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021, at Grace Living Center in Jenks, Oklahoma. She was born and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from Edison High School in 1967. She later attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. In her adult years, she lived in Texas briefly and then returned to Tulsa.
Joan had a strong spirit and was a fighter. These traits allowed her to face and overcome many physical and mental challenges. Some of Joan's life experiences included being a school bus driver, switchboard operator, draftsperson, and senior caregiver. She also enjoyed her volunteer work as a Reading is Fundamental instructor and working with the Meals on Wheels organization.
Joan was a talented artist. Oil pastel was her favorite medium. Art enhanced her life and the lives of those who received her cherished paintings. Joan also enjoyed her beloved cats, El Gato and Jazzy.
Joan will be remembered for her quick-wittedness and sometimes devious nature. She was very kind, honest, and had a terrific sense of humor. Joan often left a lasting impression on others and will truly be missed by all.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, Thomas Edward and Patricia Sloan Manning; brothers, Mark and Thomas Sloan Manning; and brother-in-law, Stephen Hugh McGowan. She is survived by: sisters, Mary Rose McGowan, Inola, OK, Patricia "Patty" Manning, Tulsa, OK, Susan "Sue" John and husband David, Tarpon Springs, FL, Margaret "Mugs" Williams and husband John, Derwood, MD, Theresa "Lee" Manning, Tulsa, OK; and sisters-in-law, Cathy Manning, Tulsa, OK, and Laurie Manning, Keller, TX; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of life-long friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at OU Impact, Grace Living Center-Jenks, and Good Shepherd Hospice for their excellent care and compassion for Joan.
Friends may honor Joan with a memorial contribution to Catholic Charities of Tulsa or a charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, at Church of St. Mary, in Tulsa.
