JoAnn Haslett Quintana, 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 30th, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane and Joe Haslett and her brother Bob Haslett of Vinita, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Bob Quintana, of 50 years. She leaves behind her children Beth Dickerson and husband Ray and Jill Hughes and husband Bill; grandchildren Joseph Dickerson, Sarah Dickerson and William Hughes; Sister Ina Lou Moudy of Henryetta, OK, Sisters-in-law Betty Haslett of Vinita, OK, Bea Sanbrano of Bartlesville, OK, Delores and David Quintana of Allen, TX, Modean and Jerry Luecke of Oklahoma City, OK, Leta Weathersby of Wichita, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
JoAnn was born at home and graduated from Miami High School in 1955. Always wanting to be a teacher, she would beg her teachers to give her their old grade books. Her father made her a large blackboard which she would decorate the edges and teach to her dolls. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University and her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Tulsa. JoAnn began her teaching career at Central Junior High in Bartlesville, OK where she taught English. She continued her career in the Tulsa Public Schools system at McLain High School. Upon the completion of her Master's Degree, she served as school counselor and Dean of Girls at Gilcrease Junior High, Horace Mann Junior High and Lewis and Clark Junior High where she flourished until her retirement.
JoAnn worked passionately with her students to counsel them through many of life's challenges. From securing food, clothing and basic needs for her students to always offering a supportive ear and encouragement, JoAnn loved rallying support for those in need. JoAnn was the gentlest of women, honest, kind, sensitive, devout and humble. She made everyone feel significant through her vibrant example and encouraged us to be better people. We will miss her warm smile and loving embrace. However, she will never be far from us because of the lessons and love she has etched on our hearts.
JoAnn loved spending time with friends, especially in her book club, gourmet dinner club and bridge clubs where she met and maintained life-long friendships. An excellent cook, JoAnn loved making meals for her family and was always adding to her prized recipe collection.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Brad Hoyt and his staff for their many years of dedicated care. Special thanks to wonderful caregivers Tonya, Ms. Dee and Naisha for their tireless assistance.
The family will be greeting visitors on Wednesday, June 3rd from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. A Rosary service will be held later that evening at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass will celebrate JoAnn's life at Christ the King Catholic Church on Thursday, June 4th at 10:00 a.m. A burial service will follow at Calvary Cemetery at 91st & South Harvard. Immediately following, a reception will take place at Fletcher Hall, Christ the King Catholic Church. Friends can honor JoAnn's memory with contributions to Catholic Charities, March of Dimes or Tulsa Opera Guild.
