Obituary
The Fermo family is sorry to announce the loss of another pillar of the Fermo family in Oklahoma. Our loving father, Jose Cruz Fermo, MD, known to friends as "Joe" or "Nanding" passed away on August 12th, 2018 at 5:38 pm, at the age of 87 years, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A native of the Philippines, Joe complete his medical degree before coming to the US in 1957. In the mid '60s, settled down with his wife and family in Oklahoma. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Central State Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma, remained on staff as an attending physician. And years later, going back to retire with the state.
In 1980 he and his wife, Merli G. Fermo, MD, started their private psychiatric practice, Fermo & Fermo, M.D.'s Inc. until he retired in 2014. Joe was a devoted father and mentor to his children, two of which, followed his footsteps into Psychiatry. He was a great husband, celebrating over 50 years of marriage before losing his wife to cancer in 2010. Joe was involved and a founder of organizations in both the Norman/Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas, including the Philippine Medical Association of Oklahoma (PMAO), Philippine-American Association of Northeast Oklahoma (PAANO), and Philippine/American Civic Organization (PACO).
He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses: Ricardo (Ric) and Joli Fermo MD, Francis (Frank) and Leslie Fermo, Theresa (Teri) Fermo, Michael (Mike) and Letty Fermo, MD, and Anthony and Laurel Fermo, MD. He has 10 grandchildren: Samantha, Tatiana, Frankie, Kayli, Christian, Joe, Jon, Jen, Isabela and Sofia.
Services will be held at the following:
Viewing: Friday, 8/17/2018 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM, with the 5th Night of the Novena and reading of the Rosary at:
Southwood Colonial Chapel
3612 East 91st Street South
Tulsa, OK 74137
Funeral: Saturday, 8/18/2018 @ 11:30AM at St. Mary's followed by a short reception/luncheon to celebrate his life:
