Joel MacFarland Burrow was born August 20, 1951, in Topeka, KS, to Frank (Hank, Sr.) and Betty (Elstun) Burrow. He graduated from Topeka High School in the Class of 1970. He initially attended DePauw University, then transferred to Kansas State University, where he received a degree in Architecture and Design in May 1975. He has since been a proud lifelong Wildcat, along with his brother, to the chagrin of many a Jayhawk in the family. Joel had a lengthy career in architecture, including many years at K.P.I. Architects of Tulsa. He was the original compiler of the Collins and Burrow family tree in 1976, long before the easier access of online genealogy websites. Joel worshipped at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka and at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, where he was a devoted member of the Sanctuary Choir for many years. He was preceded in death by both parents and his beloved sister, Susan (Burrow) Johnson of Tulsa. He is survived by his brother, Frank H. Burrow, Jr., and sister-in-law, Sandy, of Anderson, SC, his nieces Heidi (Denny) Puckett of Urbandale, IA, Cassie (Tag) Gross of Tulsa, OK, and Kelly (Patrick) McDonald of Jefferson, GA, as well as many great-nieces and -nephews that he adored. Joel was a resident of University Village Retirement Community, where he also leaves behind many friends. A private gathering will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, for interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. In Joel's memory, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa.
