Johann Galster passed away on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 at the age of 97.
Born October 30, 1922, Johann grew up on a farm in Leutenbach of Bavaria, Germany. A young man during World War II, he survived the war and chose to come to the United States, where his sister had settled with her religious community, the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother. While working as a stationary engineer in Oklahoma, he met Ruth Marie Russel. They married on September 2, 1957 and had six children together.
Johnann was a long-time parishioner at St. Anne Catholic Church where he attended daily Mass. A hard working and routine person, he drove out to his farm to take care of his cows several times a week and continued to go to the farm until this past year. Johann was also by nature a humorous person with a talent for talking with people anywhere he went. He frequented Braum's for a daily muffin and was cheerfully greeted by employees who called him the "muffin man." His humor is certainly a hallmark personality trait which he retained until the last. As he began to age, he would cheerfully refer to an "old man's privileges." Johannn's humor, stories, and wisdom will be missed. His passing will be felt by all who knew him.
Johann is survived by his children Hans, George, Ann, Elizabeth, and Margarete as well as thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marie Galster and daughter, Mary Canfield.
Viewing will be 6:30-7:00pm followed by recitation of the rosary on Sunday, December 22 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Broken Arrow. Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am on Monday, December 23rd at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Broken Arrow.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
