RITES SET FOR BUSINESSMAN AND MASONIC LEADER

On August 1, John C. Alexander, a well know Tulsa businessman, was summoned by the Grand Architect of the Universe to that Lodge not made with hands eternal in the Heavens at the age of 80.

He truly believed in the words of Albert Pike, "that what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal". John tried to live this Creed, but sometime fell short of these goals. He also knew that a man's wealth will be ultimately measured in the eyes of those that survive him - friends, comrades, brethren and family. He also believed in the teachings of the Bible found in 1 Corinthians 10:24
"Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others".

Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel on Tuesday, August 5th, from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. A Masonic graveside service, open to all, will be held at 10:00 am in the Reflections area of Floral Haven Cemetery and followed by a Celebration of Life at Asbury United Methodist Church at 11:30 am, both on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014.

John Alexander was born in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Kiowa High School in Kiowa, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1960 from University of Wichita and received a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Geology from the same school in 1962. He was employed by Champlin Petroleum Company as a Regional Geologist and in 1966 purchased the Enid Moving and Storage operation in Enid, Oklahoma, a United Van Lines affiliate. Moving to Tulsa in 1972, John, along with his two brothers, purchased the two United Van Lines affiliates in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After growing these operations into a very successful transportation business and becoming one of the largest moving and storage companies in Oklahoma, they sold the operations in 1982 to take early retirement.

He purchased and operated two independent oil producing companies, Tulsa Energy and Management and Sahara Energy, which he sold in 1987. He attended Oklahoma State University and received a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science in 1990 and served the Tulsa area as an Environmental Consultant until his death.

John was an accomplished athlete in high school and college, where he lettered in football and track at the University of Wichita, now Wichita State. His most cherished achievement was to be invited to participate in the Pre-Olympic Trials as a decathlete in 1956 and 1960.

A very active Mason, he was a Past Master of Pilgrim-Rock Masonic Lodge, elected Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge for the State of Oklahoma in 2011, a 33? Inspector General Honorary of Scottish Rite Masonry, having served as Executive Secretary for the Tulsa Scottish Rite from 1990-2001. A member of the Tulsa York Rite bodies, a past member of the Oklahoma Masonic Charity Foundation, a Past Potentate and Past Trustee of Akdar Shrine Temple, an Emeritus member of the Board of Governors of the St. Louis Shrine Hospital, a Past President of the National Sojourners Chapter101, Past Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine-St Luke conclave and Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters - Tulsa Court #47.

He served unselfishly, as a labor of Love, for the many Masonic organizations that he was associated because of what they do for the children and mankind of the World. He was a leader in the Tulsa community serving in an advisory capacity in many organizations. In 2010 he was appointed to the Board of Trustee's for Asbury United Methodist Church.
