Obituary

Tulsa native John P. Cook, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, July 24, 2010. John was born to parents Ed and Helen Frye in Barstow, CA, on November 1, 1954.

He graduated in 1972 from Bishop Kelley High School and in 1976 received a degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. John married Brenda Byrd Underwood in Norman, Oklahoma on December 31, 1989. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He had a highly respected career in the Yellow Page industry as a publisher. John had several successful publishing companies, the last being American Yellow Pages, Inc.

John also coached numerous baseball and softball teams and served on the board of Tulsa Little League for five years. In addition to being an avid OU fan and a loyal Sigma Chi, he was a lifelong student of the game of baseball. He coached, mentored and inspired many and was a true friend to all. He will be greatly missed but his memory will remain forever.

He is survived by his loving wife Brenda, children Faith, Anna and Isaac of the home; daughter Catherine Davis and husband Neal of Shawnee, and son Quannah Underwood of Norman. John is also survived by grandchildren Haiden, Braden, Jarret and Rivers Davis; Bayle and Ashlyn Underwood; sister Lucinda Zapp, niece and nephew Kateri and Hunter Zapp, of Norman; half-brother Ed Frye II; stepfather Tom L. Cook and Anne of Broken Arrow; stepsisters Myra Sellers of Sapulpa and Chris Cook of Tulsa; stepbrothers Steve Cook of Tulsa and Clint Cook of Spring Hill, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 1347 E. 49th Place, Tulsa, OK.  Rev. Msgr. Dennis Dorney, Rev. Joe Townsend, and Rev. Brian O'Brien will be officiating.
