John Douglas "Doug" Shrout died March 27th after complications from heart surgery. Doug is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Carol Shrout; daughter, Megan Shrout Gaspar, son-in-law, Scott Gaspar; and grandchildren Ava, Pierce, and Blake Gaspar; as well as sister, Stacy Schumacher, and her husband, George; brother, Mike Shrout, and his wife, Carol; brother, Pat Shrout, and his wife, Jane; sister, Sally Shrout, and her husband, Jim; and brother-in-law, Art Carpenter; along with many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his brother, James Kemper Shrout, and sister, Sue Shrout Carpenter. Doug never met a stranger and will live on in the memories of everyone he encountered.
Doug produced a wonderful family and was surrounded with wonderful friends throughout his life. While in college at the University of Tulsa, Doug met his wife, Carol, and they were married in October of 1968. After college Doug was drafted into the US Army and was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster and several Commendation Medals for his service. After his military service, Doug and Carol moved to California where Doug became a successful home builder, and the couple gave birth to a daughter, Megan. Doug's career as a builder would ultimately lead him back to Tulsa, where he worked for almost three decades as Director of Development for the Robson Companies and was instrumental in the development of Forest Ridge, Oklahoma's finest residential community with the best golf course in the state.
Doug was very dedicated to the building community and was an active member and past director of the Tulsa Home Builder's Association, where he served as President of the Developer's Council, and chaired several committees.
Prayer Service will be 7 pm, on Wednesday, April 4th, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 14th and South Boulder, and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, on Thursday, April 5th, at the Church of St. Mary in Tulsa.
