Obituary

John F. "Jack" Bracken Jr., 82, died Monday, July 12, 2010, in Tulsa, OK.  He was the loving husband of the late Hope R. (McWeeney) Bracken. Mr. Bracken was born in the Rumford section of East Providence, the son of the late John F. V. and Elizabeth (Kruse) Bracken.  He graduated from East Providence high school in 1945 and served in the Merchant Marines and the United States Army during WWII. After serving his country again in the Army during the Korean War Jack attended Northeastern University from which he graduated in 1953.

Mr. Bracken worked for General Electric for over 35 years. While working for General Electric, he moved to Oklahoma before relocating to Monroe, CT, in 1983.

After his retirement Jack became an avid baker. Many family and friends were recipients of his scrumptious baked goods. St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT held a special place in Jack's heart. He volunteered there for over 20 years. Playing golf was one of his favorite past times. He and his sons enjoyed many fun golf trips.

Mr. Bracken is survived by his children and their spouses: John and Cheryl Bracken of Spring, TX, Tim and Jeannie Bracken of Tulsa, OK, and David and Cathy Logan of Oklahoma City, OK. He also leaves his grandchildren, Nathan and Elizabeth Logan, Brandi and Shea Bracken. Mr. Bracken is also survived by his sisters, Carol Porter of Middletown, RI, and Elizabeth Herman in Oklahoma City, OK. He was the brother of the late Robert and William Bracken.

The funeral for Mr. Bracken will be Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. at the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford, at 10:00 a.m. His burial will be with full military honors in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montgomery County Youth Services, P.O. Box 31316, Conroe, TX 77303, an organization directed by his son John, with a mission that Jack had grown very close to in recent years.
