John "Kyle" Goddard, age 89, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, passed away December 10, 2022. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to parents John Lester Goddard and Margaret Alpha Goddard, on October 21st, 1933.
Kyle grew up in Tulsa and attended Central High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism at Tulsa University. While there, he was the editor of the campus newspaper and named the outstanding TU journalist by the Pi Delta Epsilon national honorary journalism fraternity in 1954. Kyle was a member of the Tulsa World Newspaper staff before entering the United States Army on August 19, 1955, as an Information Specialist. He was named the sports editor of the Fort Lee Traveler, in Fort Lee, VA, where he was stationed in 1956. Kyle served in the regular forces until 1957. He transferred to the United States Army Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in August 1961.
Kyle served for more than six years as administrative assistant for the U.S. Jaycees. He worked for the Tulsa Tribune Newspaper for about six years writing obituaries, various articles. and daily editorials. Kyle was proud to receive an Oklahoma Education Association Award for an editorial he wrote in 1969. He left the Tribune to assist Tulsa attorney James R. Jones in his run for Congress in 1970.
Kyle worked for many different politicians over the next twenty or so years, doing public relations and campaign promotion, and writing the occasional newspaper story. He was also the publisher of the "Oklahoma Scoop", which focused on the personal lives of state and local officials.
Kyle met his wife Dorothea Virginia Dennis at a Mondale/Ferraro political meeting in 1984. It was a true love story, and they married in June1987.
Later in his life, Kyle worked as a grocery sacker at Albertson's and would dress up as a clown for them. He and Virginia enjoyed performing as clowns for parades in Coweta and Wagoner. He and Virginia lived in Coweta for a couple of years, then made their final home in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Kyle considered Virginia's children his own and loved them very much.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Virginia Goddard, of the home, and all of the beloved children and grandchildren he adored.
Funeral Services with military honors were Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery's Chapel. in Tulsa.
