John F. Godfrey died peacefully at Porta Caeli House in Tulsa, OK, on January 25, 2017, at the age of 82. He was born November 21, 1934 to Roy F. Godfrey and Vivian (Scholtz) Godfrey, in Tulsa.
John is survived by: his loving wife of 54 years, Jan; his children, John M. Godfrey (wife Gina) and Jeff D. Godfrey, both of Broken Arrow, OK; one brother, James P. Godfrey of Lakewood, CO; and one cousin, Joe Godfrey (wife Von) of Amarillo, TX. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Madeline and Jack Godfrey of Broken Arrow, and niece, Shannon Godfrey of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, Bill Godfrey; his sister-in-law, Diana; his niece, Paula; and his nephew, Brad.
John was an alumnus of Marquette High School, Class of 1952, and faithfully attended their reunions. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Chukawan, and demonstrated an unfailing devotion to his country throughout his lifetime. He attended St. Benedict's College, the University of Oklahoma, and completed his degree in accounting through the University of Tulsa, then went on to earn his CPA.
As a long-time member of the Church of the Madalene, John was active in the Men's Club and enjoyed the friendships formed within his church family.
A Rosary will be held on Sunday, January 29th, at 7:00 p.m., and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 30th, 10:00 a.m., both at the Church of the Madalene, 3188 East 22nd Street, in Tulsa. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, in Tulsa.
