John L. "Jack" Farrell, Jr., died at the age of 90, in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 25, 2019. He was born January 24, 1929, in Rockaway Beach, New York City, to the late John L. Farrell and Edna (Ziegler) Farrell. Jack is survived by his wife Beverly Hembree of 24 years. Jack married Joanne Gorman in 1954, was blessed with the birth of their children, John (Diane Whitmer), Maureen (deceased, as is her husband Jacob Kenner), Jayne Hasler (Bill) and Dianne Quagliariello (Phil). In 1973, Jack married Kathy Lynch (deceased) and was blessed with their son Michael (Melanie Tirronen). Throughout Jack's entire life, his greatest pride and love was his family. Over his years, he shared the joys of five children, three stepchildren, twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
After graduation from St Peter's University, NJ, Class of '50, Jack entered the U.S. Army. He took great pride in his military service during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in '53. Upon his return, and with the support of Joanne, Jack graduated from St John's University School of Law, Class of '55, and then from New York University School of Business, MBA Class of '60.
His 56-year business career included employment affiliations with American Car & Foundry (ACF Industries), Knox Glass, US Filter Corporation and Filtrol Corporation, all primarily in New York City; and as president of FRACORP and as a Financial Consultant, both in Tulsa. He held an elected position with Ardsley Public Schools, Ardsley, NY, and was a Board member of Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY. He was an 18-year volunteer for Saint Francis Hospice, Tulsa, OK, where he received a Volunteer of the Year Award.
Jack, remembered as a true gentleman, loved the outdoors, Final Four trips with sons and grandchildren, and numerous cruises and visits to our National Parks with Beverly. Jack was born of Irish ancestry and was proud of his more than 30 years of genealogy "work" as Family Tree Maker building the 4,300-member Farrell Family Tree.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 8, 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Saint Mary, 1347 East 49th Street, Tulsa. Family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m.
An additional mass will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Francis DeSales in Belle Harbor, New York on Saturday, July 13, 2019 (time to be announced); and Place of Eternal Rest will be at the John L. Farrell Family plot, St John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens County, New York City, New York .
