John F. "Jack" McDermott Jr., 88, died Tues Jan 21, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Sonoma, CA. He passed quickly and peacefully with Hospice singing to him. Born on December 8, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, he graduated from Notre Dame as an Ensign in the US Navy V-12 program with dual degrees in engineering. He was a retired Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineer and an avid fan of golfing and Notre Dame Football. Jack was preceded in death by the love of his life, his spouse of 53 yrs, Charlotte L. (Younkin) McDermott.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen & husband Donald Reddaway of Sand Springs, OK, Patricia McDermott of San Diego, CA, Dr. Barbara McDermott of Napa, CA, John McDermott of San Diego, CA, and granddaughter Marleen & husband Robert Snyder of Tulsa, OK.
Visitation will be held Wed Jan 29, 5-7 pm at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel with Rosary at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thurs Jan 30, 2 pm at St Bernard of Clairvaux Church with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
