Obituary

John E. Laney died October 28, 2010. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harold and Genevieve Laney on July 5, 1938. He married Mary Margaret Harper of Fort Smith, Arkansas on September 2, 1961. John graduated from Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended Notre Dame University, Benedictine Heights College in Tulsa where he met Mary. He finished his schooling at North West Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. John worked for Coca Cola in Tulsa for 5 years earning the title of Salesman of the year and then spent 25 years as a sales rep for Nabisco. After retiring from Nabisco he spent 15 happy years on the staff of Bishop Kelley High School, teaching the "John Laney Philosophy." He had a passion for woodworking, especially building furniture and making frames, and collecting Nabisco memorabilia. He was also passionate about Notre Dame football and Bishop Kelley sports. He and Mary also enjoyed doing Search retreats with Bishop Kelley students. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother David. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Mary Margaret and three daughters Sally Anne and husband Tom Gray, Susan Anne McKerrell, and Carolyn Anne Stipe; his grandchildren Jonathan, Matthew and Andrew Gray of Oklahoma City, Leslea Anne Abdo and Dylan McKerrell of Tulsa, and Jessica Anne and Garrett Stipe of Stillwater. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Church of the Madalene at 22nd and Harvard on Monday, November 1 at 11 am. The rosary will be recited at 5 pm on Sunday October 31 at Madalene. Donations may be made in John's name to the Bishop Kelley Scholarship Fund, or Angelo Prassa Students Assistance Fund, or the St. John Foundation Directed for Xanthus Dialysis.
