John Dale Martens of Tulsa, Oklahoma was born November 12, 1943 in Wayne, Nebraska. Mr. Martens died in Tulsa on January 13, 2011.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Irma B. Vonseggern Martens and Leonard William John Martens of Montrose, Colorado. John is survived by his wife and love of his life, Mary Anne of the home, his brothers, James Leonard Martens of Las Vegas, NV and Frederick Lee Martens of Rifle, Colorado. John's son is David Martens of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
John graduated from The University of Colorado, Boulder, with a B.S. in Business Administration, the Thunderbird School of Global Management, with a MS in International Management, and attended
Queen Mary College, of the University of London for Post- graduate study in the World Energy Model.
John completed active duty as Captain, U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command.
John was a leader, exemplified by these accomplishments: His early business career years were spent at Ford Motor Co., and as CEO & President of Sterling Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was Vice-President of Corporate Development, of MCI Communications, Washington D.C., Vice President of Southern New England Telephone, New Haven CT, and Senior Vice President , WilTel, Inc. in Tulsa, OK.
John most recently was Principal of The Corporate Development Company in Tulsa, OK.
John was active in many national and local civic organizations, including the Economic Development Commission of Tulsa, the St. Francis Health System Program, United Way Advisory Board and board member and officer of the Tulsa Figure Skating Club. John was quite proud of becoming a U.S. Figure Skating judge and being President of the Mid-America Figure Skating Association. John was a member of New Haven Country Club in New Haven, CT and Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa, OK.
A Rosary will be at 7 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 19, at Holy Family Cathedral with Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
