Obituary

John J. Murphy

Tulsa, 91

John was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1922.

He served with the 20th Air Force during World War II as a tail gunner in the B-29 Superfortress.

His love of aviation continued with American Airlines at LaGuardia Airport where he met his future wife Hattie Reneski.

John and Hattie moved to Tulsa with American in 1949 and raised two children, John, Audio Engineer and Educator in New York CIty, and Marilyn, Artist and Educator at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

Johnny's work as an auditor had him in constant motion visiting a new American station each week putting him in contact with a vast collection of friends and acquaintances.

In his free time, Johnny and Hattie were avid travelers trekking Machu Picchu one year, and strolling the boulevards of Munich the next.

John was a little league coach, an avid golfer, and an irrepressible raconteur.

It would amuse him immensely to know that he is to be interred on St. Patrick's Day.

Some might say he planned it that way all along.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Calvary Cemetery Chapel Monday, March 17, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be held 5-7 P.M. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel.
