Obituary

Juanita (Janie) Engracia Martinez-Ibarra

Juanita Engracia went to be with the Lord Friday, August 28, 2015.

Juanita was born September 15, 1982 in Tulsa, OK. She is survived by her four children Jacquelynn Alvarez, Anthony, Maria Fernanda, and Enrique Ibarra; her parents Rosalio and Linda Martinez; her siblings Jose Angel Acu?a and Rosalio Martinez Jr. and she is also survived by these significant persons, Homero Ibarra and Noe Alvarez.

Juanita attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and then onto Bishop Kelley High School. She enjoyed several activities including baseball, volleyball, and basketball. She also belonged to Campfire. In high school she turned her focus towards athletic training/sports medicine. Since she was a little girl she always loved music and dance. She was part of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Ballet Folklorico.

Juanita also embraced having the best of both worlds. She was proud of being from Tulsa and knew exactly what it meant to be an "Okie." She also was very proud of her Mexican heritage. Each year, she was able to celebrate her birthday during the Tulsa Hispanic Week held in downtown Tulsa and she sought to help her community by acting as a translator.

Helping others was the core of her persona. Whether it be translating, athletic training, attending to athletes or even offering her home to a friend in need.

When one thought of Juanita, her smile first came to mind. She never would turn away conversation and would welcome anyone. The simple act in her smiling to someone, shows just how many people in the Tulsa community were touched by her caring heart. She will be missed dearly by her children, parents, siblings and extended family; in addition the Catholic, Tulsa and Hispanic communities.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bishop Kelley Athletic Training/Sports Medicine program in Juanita's name.
